"The process of Life must be kept in motion." Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, Founder of Osteopathy
Craniosacral Therapy developed from the work of an early Osteopath named Dr. William Garner Sutherland. About 100 years ago he pioneered an approach to optimize the health of clients which became known as "the Cranial Concept" of Osteopathy. These original concepts have been refined over the years becoming the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy of today.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a receptive and non invasive approach to health that works with the whole of a person, acknowledging the profound interconnectedness of the body mind functions and the deepest healing foundations of the human system. Life expresses itself as motion, and this can be felt with sensitive trained hands as movements, pulsations, and flows within the tissues and fluids of the client's system. These motions are the most basic and natural underlying organizing forces in nature, and are what help the body maintain its overall health throughout life. BCST practitioners consider one's physical breathing to be secondary to these more fundamental forms of movement, called Primary Respiration. Throughout life most of us collect various shocks and traumas which can accumulate within our bodies. In the most simplistic terms, these restriction may inhibit natural physiological rhythms that are necessary for optimum health and well being. When these restrictions are not given the space and reflection to move dis-ease, pain, and an overall stuckness may begin to manifest.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy deeply acknowledges this inherent health within everybody, as it is a fundamental expression of Nature itself. Coming into relationship with a skilled practitioner can stimulate this inherent drive within our physiology. With a very gentle touch, appreciation of the inherent Health, and acknowledgement of these underlying forces, the therapist can begin to engage with the client's system and listen for what wants to be revealed and to be resolved at its own pace, not at the pace of the therapist. This is the movement towards well being, as the body's natural capacity for reorganisation and self repair arises from within the client, helping to resolve stresses, patterns and traumas accumulated throughout life. Thus the work may span the spectrum from alleviation of symptoms to overall spiritual growth. The simplicity of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is its beauty and its art. Through this profoundly simple touch, without imposition, one begins to change. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy treats a multitude of conditions and due to its gentle therapeutic nature it is beneficial for people of all ages, from newborn, babies and children to adults and the elderly.
The core of this work is perceptual; the concept grew out of repeated observations until the laws of nature became more clear. We learn to sense the Whole. When one meets a patient one sees the Whole - a very rare event in our modern world. Dr. James Jealous D.O.
